I don’t like to make grand predictions or pie in the sky expectations; however, there are a few things I wouldn’t mind taking on for the sake of trying something a little different. 2023 was a pretty good year for us, but you have to be careful, because at some point your luck runs out. I just hope when it does, it’s a thud and not a crash. But that’s the way I go about life. It’s a day by day process that you’re mostly responsible for. Nothing earth-shattering, but here’s a few things on my mind in the next year.
I’m probably unlike most people who write: I don’t really have a writing schedule; it’s whenever the mood and moment is right. Sure, I put pressure on myself to keep it moving. I like to take a few days off now and then, but after that, I have to keep it fresh. Expect more of that. You should keep seeing at least two or three posts a week from my publication.
Specifically speaking, I’d like to write more reviews. I’m not a food critic; I will never profess to be one. That doesn’t mean I will shy away from places that made an impact on me. If I have anything bad to say about an establishment in Gatlinburg, it will always be constructive. I think reviews that bash businesses are rather tacky and unwarranted, especially if it was your first visit. I know it’s important as a business to leave a good impression (first, or any)…so goes the saying. But sometimes, you’re just not on your game, and I am more sensitive to that now.
I’ve wrestled with the uncomfortable idea of incorporating video into my repertoire, but that’s a work in progress I’m not ready to commit to. Don’t be surprised to see it happen, though. Many of my ideas never materialize, but I think it would be good to grow and see how people respond to it. I’m always trying to do my best to inform potential and current visitors, but if I can tastefully entertain, that will only lead to better content.
Most of my Facebook posts are pictures of what’s going on in downtown Gatlinburg. The sheer convenience factor is undeniable; however, I think it’s inevitable we’ll be spending more time in the Smoky Mountains in 2024, which means reviews of places within the park itself, descriptions of our adventures, and recommendations. We have a few sites we’d like to tackle; we just have to make it happen and scrap our hesitant nature (pun intended).
I’m sure there are a few surprises that could take me in a totally different direction than intended…and that is fine. I welcome any suggestions I receive, whether it’s from coworkers, acquaintances, or chance encounters. If there’s one thing (or two) I know about Gatlinburg, it’s the amount of opportunity and inspiration all around; it lead us here. I’ve been moved to tears from morning walks and mountain views, to sunrises and sunsets. I have a front row seat to it now, and it would be a shame to take it for granted or miss it.
Thank you all for following, reading, and subscribing to A Gatlinburg NOW Publication. I write because I’m continuously passionate about giving you all the glory of Gatlinburg and how it excites me to start a new day here. We’re all living in the moment, and I’m always happy to share it with you the best way I can. See you all next year!
