After a delay in allowing for walkers and bikers to take advantage of the entire 11-mile Cades Cove loop, the National Park Service has announced June 18th as the first Wednesday in 2025 for this opportunity. No vehicles will be allowed in Cades Cove every Wednesday from that date through September 24th—the last day for walkers and bikers to enjoy this beautiful valley in the park.
I don’t need to rehash all the details about a related post I wrote when there were questions whether vehicle-free Wednesday would be returning; therefore, I’d like to go over some helpful information the Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials provided.
For those walkers and bikers who want to enjoy this once-a-week freedom, they are advised to park only in designated areas. People don’t need to rush to get a spot in the morning; it last all day; however, once parking is full, vehicles will be turned away, and people will be asked to return at another time. Don’t forget your parking tag, as well!
The adventure-seekers probably don’t need to be reminded, as they always seem to be well-prepared in my experience seeing them, but it never hurts to go over the basics. You should always pack plenty of water, food, and a first-aid kit, and bicyclists should always wear a helmet when biking the loop or anywhere else in the park.
Another biking note: Non-motorized bikes and Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are allowed in Cades Cove. Those with Class 3 e-bikes are prohibited from riding. Scooters, skateboards, and hoverboards are the other motorized and non-motorized vehicles NOT allowed here.
I hope you all have an opportunity to experience the quiet and peaceful sounds, along with the incredible beauty Cades Cove possesses on at least one Wednesday between these dates. I wouldn’t mind doing this myself, crossing another life moment off that list. If not, there’s plenty more soul-cleansing areas in the Smoky Mountains where you can accomplish this much-desired feeling!
Thank you so much for reading and subscribing to my publication. I hope to keep you informed of all news and events upcoming in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. Stay tuned! Much more from me is on the way!
