The City of Gatlinburg recently announced the completion of a new playground on its beautiful Mynatt Park grounds. This is another addition to the continuing renovation and beautification of the park that appeals to all age groups.
This new, exciting playground features a myriad of cutting-edge structures and amenities offered to encourage imaginative and inclusive play. The equipment is designed for young school-age kids and up to preteens. Extra care in the planning and construction was done especially to help those with a wide range of physical and sensory needs, giving it a special distinction beyond most standard play areas.
Laurence Evans, City of Gatlinburg Recreation Director, had this to say: “This new playground… is a statement about the City’s commitment to providing quality and enriching recreational opportunities. From the musical elements to the specially designed swings and accessible surfacing, we’ve taken great care to ensure this playground welcomes all families and children, regardless of ability.”
Over the course of a few years—since I moved here, especially—I’ve been impressed with the improvements we’ve witnessed firsthand. The upgrades to the infrastructure have included the new youth baseball and softball field, an accessibility project, and upgraded amenities.
Located just past the line of hotels on Airport Road, for us, Mynatt Park has been a wonderful place for pictures, pickleball-playing, and peacefulness unmatched in any other acreage in this beautiful town—and yes, that’s saying something!
This is a phenomenal inclusion to an already wonderful area in Gatlinburg. The City encourages locals and visitors alike to take full advantage of the opportunities Mynatt Park is contributing, and celebrate your day in the best possible way!

Discovered Mynatt Park many years ago. Was always a great respite from the crowds because it seemed very few people other than the neighborhood residents knew about it. Nice playground!
