We’re on the cusp of summer in Gatlinburg. Last year at this time, we made our last true vacation to the Smoky Mountains. On the same day I’m writing this, last year we visited Astra Lumina for the first time—June 2, 2023. What a magical, starry sight it was for us to walk through! As annual pass holders, we never thought to do any of the add-on attractions at Anakeesta…until this one. It was also on this day last year that I had breakfast at The Donut Friar, walked through the area of our soon-to-be new home, ate at Bennett’s Pit Bar-B-Que for a late lunch, and did our usual walks downtown.
It’s pretty cool looking back at pictures I took in Gatlinburg, and I can’t help but feel the excitement that was brewing—also the anxiety—ahead of our imminent move. All the while though, we were paranoid that an event would derail our plans, deferring the dream permanently, perhaps. Whether it was on our end, or the apartment people, we were on pins and needles praying for the good fortunes to continue. We were so close, yet so far away it seemed. We had been down this road before. Obviously, you all know that it turned out alright for us, so let’s review what happened with our tenth month of life in Gatlinburg!
