There is arguably no other food that is as symbolic of Gatlinburg as a plate of pancakes. I have no idea how many pancakes are served in any given week, but it has to be substantial. The lines at several places in town are no better proof of this. For example, the Pancake Pantry will sometimes have lines that twist and turn into The Village. So, it only makes perfect sense that there is an entire week devoted to the sweet breakfast treat. You may want to change or add another visit to Gatlinburg if you’re a fan of the fluffy delight. Here’s what to know about Pancake Week!
If you remember, I wrote and offered my two cents on my favorite burgers during Gatlinburger Week last September. More than a dozen restaurants created a special burger made especially for this contest. You could vote on your favorite from the Gatlinburg app, and the winner would get bragging rights and a cool trophy. If you followed the instructions from the app, the participants could also win prizes just for trying as many burgers as possible. This was fun, and Pancake Week offers similar incentives for businesses and participants.
With Pancake Week, you’ll be tempted by a specialty pancake from each entrant in the competition. Even though I don’t have a list of the different pancakes being offered, I do have a list of restaurants and cafes that are just flipping at the opportunity to be declared victorious! Here are the contenders vying for the ultimate prize:
Crockett’s Breakfast Camp, Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin, Little House of Pancakes, Log Cabin Pancake House, Maddi Mae’s Cafe & Creamery, Shoney’s, Smoky Mountains Creperie, Pancake Pantry, The Atrium.
These nine will be coming up with some unique round flour flapjacks that they hope will win you over. If Gatlinburger Week in any indication, expect some clever tactics to sway your vote. What do I mean by this? Well, pricing and tradition could be a factor, despite how original some businesses will play with the recipes.
Gatlinburg Pancake Week will be held during the week of February 19th-25th. Here’s how you can have a say with your participation! Simply download the new Gatlinburg app on you phone, and you will be able to check in at each establishment. I don’t know how different it will be compared to Gatlinburger Week, but follow the instructions in order to get some neat prizes in the process.
These prizes include a stress ball, a Gatlinburg Pancake Week scratch-n-sniff sticker, and a Gatlinburg Breakfast Club t-shirt. The best is with just one check in, you’ll be automatically entered in a drawing to win the Grand Prize: a 2-night stay in Gatlinburg; plus, a $25 dollar pancake house gift card.
Sound good to you? Of course it does! I mean, we’re talking about pancakes. “We ain’t talking about the bacon. We talkin’ pancakes…when it matters!” I know I may have lost some of you with that, but this is one of those “if you know, you know” moments. You can leave a comment if you have to find out.
Thank you for reading and subscribing to my publication! I hope to see you here for Gatlinburg Pancake Week! I may be taking one for the team with this one, since I largely avoid pancakes for obvious diabetic reasons. You know the drill. If you love hearing about the latest news and happenings in Gatlinburg, I hope you’ll join in this wonderful journey with me!
