Great Smoky Mountains Balloon Festival Lifts Off Soon
We’re heading to the Peaceful Side of the Smokies for this post. I heard about it on the news last night before bed and quickly made a note to research it today. Not being from the area, this was oblivious to me, but it’s celebrating 6 years of fun, games, and entertainment for the whole family in beautiful Townsend. Here’s some of what you can expect.
It’s not a free event, but with all the happenings and offerings at the Townsend Visitor Center, it’s worth a look. Parking is $25 and it includes two admission tickets; entry tickets are $5. Free parking is offered for those who want the full VIP experience. A few of the inclusions for the pass are: a tethered balloon ride, cocktails from Company Distilling and Old Forge Distillery, commemorative swag, a catered meal from The Abbey, and more.
A new feature for the 2023 festival includes refillable water bottles and stations to cut back on plastic waste. You’ll also be able to peruse the more than 30 craft booths at the event. A DJ will be cranking the music to add a little flair in the air, in addition to the balloons themselves.
The one-day festival will start at 3 on August 19th at the Townsend Visitor Center. Ticket purchasing can be done at gsmballoonfest.com, and you can also get the details on everything else going on here as well.
The event is said to bring thousands of guests, so that speaks to its popularity. We have never really explored Townsend; it’s always a drive-by on the way to Cades Cove. I know many people like to stay away from Gatlinburg, and this place has always been a favorite of those who love the beauty and peacefulness of the Smokies. It should definitely be a priority now that we’ve made the leap and call this place our home.
