Gatlinburg Gains New Restaurant As Myron Mixon Barbecue Co. Will Land in Crawdaddy's Space
May will be quite a busy month for new restaurants in Gatlinburg. In my last update, I discussed Blue Moose Burgers and Wings taking over the space of the recently closed Landshark restaurant with an anticipated opening of May. Now it seems evident that Kennedy Concepts will welcome a new restaurant into their portfolio—Myron Mixon Barbecue Co.—which is set to fire up in mid-May.
They will occupy the space of Crawdaddy’s, located at 762 Parkway in the middle of the downtown Gatlinburg bustle. The popular, Louisiana-inspired cuisine hangout closed for good in the beginning of January to make way for this new barbecue concept that’s not so new to these parts.
Myron Mixon Barbecue Company will become the 8th restaurant in the Kennedy Concepts family, joining Pucker’s Sports Grill, Johnny Rockets, Cafe4, Sugar Baby, The Kennedy, and Loco Burro Gatlinburg and Knoxville locations. I don’t have anything too definitive, only that they plan to have a tentative May 15 ribbon-cutting and grand opening that may resemble the one that celebrated the recent opening of the new Pucker’s Sports Grill in downtown Gatlinburg.
Myron Mixon is a 5-time award-winning barbecue pitmaster who has appeared on many different television shows showcasing his skills, and is most famous for being on the TLC show, BBQ Pitmasters. In 2017, he opened Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ in Alexandria, Virginia. The menu contains some of his favorite works including BBQ Baked Beans, Baby Back Mac and Cheese, and Dry Rubbed Wings.

He is also the author of five cookbooks and sells his famous sauces in various retail outlets across the United States and beyond. What may be even more impressive is he served as mayor in his hometown of Unadilla, Georgia from 2016-2020. It’s safe to say he’s built up quite the brand based on his many successes in the barbecue world.
It should come as no surprise that Myron is a semi-regular visitor here in Gatlinburg. Why? Well, he often raves about his favorite place in the tourist town to get a steak. Where? Cherokee Grill. Yes, he visits the downtown restaurant for a slab of Prime Rib. He also has been known to visit their sister restaurant, Chesapeake’s, for some amazing seafood. I can’t argue with either choices!
Are you ready for a new barbecue restaurant in Gatlinburg? Like the other ones that hope to be open this spring—Taco Trail Taqueria & Bar, Blue Moose Burgers and Wings—I will be a customer when they all open their doors for business right here on the Parkway. Personally, I don’t eat barbecue very often, but when I do, I go easy on the sauce. I prefer to judge them based on the tasty, savory quality of the meats alone; however, based solely on the reputation chef Myron Mixon, I have pretty lofty expectations. We will find out!
