Moving day for us is fast approaching so I’ve cobbled together some things that have happened this week in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. Next week is a huge week for us, but don’t worry, I’ll be sharing details as soon as I can breathe and sit still long enough to put a post together. I appreciate your patience! Here are a few notable things from this week.
Jason Aldean makes an appearance at his namesake bar in Gatlinburg
Jason Aldean’s Kitchen and Rooftop Bar has been open for weeks now, but on Thursday he was on site in Gatlinburg for the official grand opening. Aldean was there to cut the ribbon, and I believe he stayed for a bit to sing a few songs, but I haven’t confirmed that. Along with Blake Shelton’s Ole Red just down and across the street, expect plenty of live music to emanate from these establishments. I will go on record to say I love the sounds of music in Gatlinburg, and this will add to the musical aura of the tourist town.
Reality TV show features a Gatlinburg resident
Red Utley is a new contestant on CBS’ popular reality show, “Big Brother,” hailing from right here in Gatlinburg. Known as “Hillbilly Red” on TikTok, he has amassed around 600,000 followers, and an even more impressive 5.5 million likes. The show is in its 25th season with the winner receiving a cool $750,000. I’ve long since stopped watching this show, along with a few other reality shows I’m sad to say I’ve watched, but I wouldn’t mind tuning in to see him.
Laurel Falls Trail hit with damaging graffiti
In some heartbreaking and infuriating news this week, vandals spray-painted graffiti all over a section of rocks along the trail. This was reported to the park service on July 24th and signals a sad reality. It’s not productive to point a finger at today’s kids or society. It just works us up in a frenzy. What’s really tragic is the fact this is going to be extremely costly to a Park Service that’s already trying to make due with funds for upgrades. I just can’t fathom anyone doing this who even remotely cares about our parks and land. I hope they catch those responsible…by all means.
That’s a wrap of the notable news of the week from the area. If you like what you see, go ahead and be a subscriber to get news and more directly into your email.
