Spring is just around the corner, and so is the Easter holiday celebrated by millions of Christians. Gatlinburg isn’t known to skip any important holiday throughout the year, so it’s no surprise there are a few notable events you won’t want to miss if you’re in town. All ages are represented across the board with these activities, from eats to crafts, and here’s what to look for.
Great Smoky Easter Arts and Crafts Show
Craft shows are a regular occurrence here in Gatlinburg for good reason. The downtown used to have many artisans before they all migrated to the Arts and Crafts Loop beginning at Glades Road off 321. Lots of hand-made items from the edible to the beautiful will all be featured at the Gatlinburg Convention Center downtown. These people are all very friendly, with demonstrations also being a vital part of the whole show. This event is free to the public from March 27th through the 30th, so come in to some fantastic creativity!
Glow-in-the-Dark Egg Hunt
Painting Around, a do-it-yourself painting and art experience, is hosting this event which is fantastic fun for kids and adults. What’s cool is that they also do mobile events, so they’re available for booking your own special event where you can unleash your inner Van Gogh while enjoying a unique, one-of-a-kind celebration with their services. Their second annual egg hunt will be held at the Painting Around location at 170 Glades Road on March 29th and 30th. Even though it costs $5, you’ll get that back with a $15 arts and crafts purchase in their shop. Click here for more details about the business.
Easter Sunday Lunch
The Vista Grill at The Park Vista hotel is offering an Easter Sunday lunch. If you’re not familiar, this hotel has 360 degree mountain views, and it’s most noticeable as the structure that sits face-view from Gatlinburg of Mt. Leconte, the third highest peak in the Smoky Mountains. Vista Grill is a full-service restaurant at the esteemed hotel, featuring hearty American cuisine from omelets to stacked savory sandwiches. I don’t have the exact Easter Sunday lunch menu, but I’m sure it’ll be much more than rabbit food.
Easter Sunrise Service at Ober Mountain
This is another yearly religious ceremony that’s been serving the early risers for many years. How early? The first tram will go up at 5 A.M. with the worship service beginning at 6:30. If you decide to drive up to Ober Mountain, you will be rewarded with complimentary parking. This will be led by the Gatlinburg Ministerial Association outdoors, but if weather interferes, it will still be held indoors around the Ice Arena.
As you can clearly see, Gatlinburg really starts to ramp up the events as the temperature does too. You won’t have any excuse to miss these if you’re visiting during this time. Have fun, everyone!
