Even the shoddiest of plans can go awry when youâre looking forward to a road trip. Our day trip to Asheville, North Carolina was much-anticipated. We really had a âperfectâ day to do it. The weather wasnât going to be too hot or cold, plus there was rain expected around lunch in Gatlinburg, so we couldâve just ended up on the couch most the day. But thatâs not what we wanted to do. Well, after what we just went through, staying at home might have been the better plan. Or was it? Iâll explain.
Our itinerary certainly wasnât detailed; in fact, I didnât want to iron out a bunch of things, because we would only have so much time to tackle such activities. All I wanted to do was browse the downtownâs many eclectic shops and go out for a nice meal at some point. Whatever we wanted to get ourselves into I sought to get accomplished by 5 in the afternoon. This guy does not want to drive at night. As it turned out, I wouldn't even come close to traveling at the edge of daylight.
It didnât take long before the first sliver of enjoyment was taken from our day trip. My GPS went quiet and I took a wrong turn before we even exited Tennessee.
Oh here we go.
