Anakeesta Ramping Up ADA Accessibility Within Its Adventure Park
Like most other attractions coming out of the slow winter season, Anakeesta has expanded its operating hours to welcome the larger crowds and warmer weather. Another important aspect is that it’s currently undergoing and already had different projects completed, making the outdoor mountain adventure park more ADA accessible.
While there will still be elements of Anakeesta that unfortunately can’t be reworked to aid those with disabilities, they are making a conscious effort to improve what they can. This involves widening walkways, adding ramps to the attractions within the park, and, specifically, making the Birdventure element ADA accessible. Austin Martin, Director of Communications at the park, says they are replacing stairs at various areas so “they are able to get to those places and really enjoy the Smoky Mountains with their family no matter what the situation may look like.”
Anakeesta may be chock full of activities for the family to do, but what really elevates the experience is the incredible mountain views. They have always taken center stage, and every improvement they’ve made has always kept the mountains the focal point, with a special nod to the beauty of Smoky Mountain plant life; hence the Vista Gardens, the Willow statue—”the keeper of the forest,” and the Anvista Tower, which symbolizes a flower petal with strong roots.
With the theme park helping bring millions of guests every year, Anakeesta has firm footing as one of the best attractions in the entire Smoky Mountain tourist region, not just Gatlinburg. We were fans of the adventure park as tourists, and that continues as residents of Gatlinburg. I am proud to be involved with them, and I’m always happy to promote their activities and events to happy visitors.
Anakeesta has been deeply involved in local interests and causes. They invest in local businesses, and have donated more than $33,000 for their “Anakeesta Cares” initiative that went toward three charities dedicated to rebuilding and aiding those who were deeply affected by Helene’s destruction last September.
I encourage you to come visit on your Gatlinburg vacation and be dazzled by the amazing views, activities, and entertainment your family will enjoy!
