A Very Musical Weekend in Gatlinburg
I don’t know if any of you have heard, but the weekend of August 19-21 will probably feature the largest set of musicians ever to descend upon Gatlinburg. Musicians across a wide spectrum of genres will be playing in spots around town. If you have plans to visit the following weekend and weren’t aware of these events, maybe one of these can be in the cards for you.
It’s not fair to label one festival or another as a headlining event, simply because of the array of musical styles, and the popularity of the various bands or musicians.
The Gatlinburg Convention Center will be home to the Monsters on the Mountain festival, which is a 3 day metal maniac’s dream. Some of the biggest hair metal and hard rock icons of the 80s and 90s (and some lesser known ones) will be cranking out their biggest hits to a enthusiastic live audience. The lineup list is too long to elaborate on here so check the website for a complete information guide.
The Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival is in their second iteration, and this will give people a chance to see some famous songwriters who’ve written hits for some of the biggest stars in Country music. You’ll also find some up-and-coming artists looking for their big break. Once again, I’ve highlighted the link, so click on it to see the full range of artists playing in some natural and unexpected locations in the Gatlinburg area.
I’m not positive if you should expect it to be unusually busy on that particular weekend, but I definitely wouldn’t change your plans, unless it means attending one of these events that you wouldn’t have done otherwise. I’m sure this doesn’t even include the outdoor entertainment that’s ongoing in the Hollar at Ole Smoky Moonshine. Take advantage if you can!
